Why join a life group?

Everyone needs a community to be part of! We believe that Life Groups are a great way in which we can enjoy community, build friendships and live life together as Christ followers.  Almost 2000 people would call one of Jubilee’s congregations their church.  With so many people coming together (in the flesh or online) it is very hard to develop meaningful, intimate relationships on Sundays.

Life Groups are small groups of between 8 and 12 people that meet mid-week.  Currently, as part of our response to the Coronavirus in South Africa, Life Groups are meeting via online streaming services like Zoom and Skype.

What do life groups do?

The purpose of Life Group is twofold: to fulfill the two Great Commandments, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” and “Love your neighbour as yourself” (Matt 22:36‐40), and to fulfill the Great Commission, “Go and make disciples of all nations… teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matt 28:18‐20).

Life Groups are a way of truly being a New Testament church, of living out what we value so that the vision God has given us becomes a reality. The Life Group vision serves Jubilee’s overall vision. Life Groups are a place where community can be built, seekers can ask questions and spiritual gifts can be developed and deployed; where genuine, deep relationships can develop even in a big church like Jubilee. It creates a context for care and fellowship, application of the Word of God and equipping people to serve those around them. It is a place where everyone can get involved, grow and develop.

Where do life groups meet?

South Africa is currently in an unprecedented season of social distancing.  We fully support the government’s decision to limit physical interaction and have stopped mid-week Life Group gatherings to support this effort.  However we do believe that distancing should not equate to disconnection.  Therefore, our Life Groups continue to meet every week by making use of the plethora of online video conferencing tools available.
