Questions About Christianity
How can you claim that Jesus is the only way to God?
This is a question that has come up a couple of times already in our group discussions. It includes a number of other concerns such as:
‘What about other religions? Are they all wrong?’
‘Isn’t it arrogant of Christians to assert that theirs is the only true way?’
Because there are so many aspects to this question, here are five answers:
William Lane Craig acknowledges the difficulty of the claim, but argues that trying to change what Jesus said in order to make him more acceptable to today’s audience is no solution – we must accept the Jesus of history who did make exclusive claims, even if they are challenging.
Lee Strobel tackles some of the reasons why Christians claim Jesus is the only way and answers the question of arrogance.
Tim Keller contrasts the various founders of the major religions and seeks to demonstrate that if Jesus’ claim to be God is true, he is therefore vastly superior to other ‘founders’. Believers are therefore bound to believe that claim even though it presents difficulties for others.
Josh Mcdowell argues that Jesus provides the only solution to our separation from God. By becoming a man, dying on the cross and rising from the dead, Jesus provides the unique solution for everyone. The short article is here.
