The Jubilee internship programme enables applicants to grow in their faith and develop key life skills through practical service in areas of church ministry coupled with theological study and mentorship.

What is an intern?

An intern is someone who has applied and been accepted onto our internship program and has thus committed to serve voluntarily (with a small stipend to cover expenses) in the church community for at least 25 hours per week and for at least 6 months. The intern will choose a ministry area to serve in but will essentially be part of a team of interns that meet regularly for discipleship input and monthly team building activities.

Why intern with Jubilee?

  • Great opportunity to serve God and grow in your faith as you are immersed in a vibrant church community
  • Great range of ministries to serve in
  • Follow through part of the Advance Theology Course during your year.
  • 1-1 pastoral mentorship
  • Develop life skills and professional skills that will prepare you for your next steps (team work, planning, organisation, time management, IT skills, communication, public speaking)

What ministry areas can I intern in?

Kids
At Jubilee, we believe that children are highly valued to God and that they can have a real relationship with him from a young age. Because of this belief, we run programmes to reach hundreds of children every week from very different backgrounds. This makes the kids ministry a fun and busy place to serve and we would welcome you to come and join our team! The role is varied and includes face-to-face ministry in local schools during the week (lunchtime clubs) and weekend kids’ ministry programmes (Kids Club and Sunday ministries). You will be involved in planning and leading these ministries as part of a team. You will also be involved in lots of behind the scenes planning for kids ministry such as craft and activity preparations for Sunday mornings, communications with parents and families, and helping with managing kids data using the church database. Being an extrovert is not essential and we will help to train you in all areas of the ministry. However, you need to be willing to get stuck in, work hard, be a team player and find joy in both the up-front and the behind-the-scenes areas of serving the kids in our community.

Youth
Stats say that 85% of born again Christians gave their lives to God on or before their 18th birthday. So come and join a fun, vibrant and servant-hearted team as we seek to love, serve and share the good news of Jesus on the frontlines to the youth of Cape Town (ages 12-18) in a crucial formative stage of their lives. The role includes going into schools, being a part of and running meaningful small group Bible studies as well as two youth programmes weekly. There is a wide range of opportunities available for different areas of gifting such as, worship, teaching, admin, discipleship, serving, sound engineering, creative thinking and more. Our team is a great place to build life-long friendships as you serve alongside people with a wonderful passion to Love Jesus and love his people. Being an extrovert is not essential, we’ll provide all the necessary training to help you feel equipped and valuable to our team. If this gets you excited, or sparks a hint of interest please apply to join our team, we’d love to have you.

Central Services
If you’re considering a career in: IT, Sound Engineering, Audiovisual, Human Resources, Administration, Finance, Graphic Design, Communications, Finance or Events Management, this is the perfect place to get exposure. From creating video content and handling media presentations & ProPresenter, to leveraging software and onboarding new employees… there are plenty of opportunities and they are varied as well. Not only will you have a chance to serve the church, you’ll leave with solid experience under your belt that will equip you for your future employment.

Jubilee Health Centre
Be part of a vibrant team of people serving those in need of medical help and attention. The Jubilee Health Centre has space for someone willing to support the team at work by making tea and coffee, chatting to patients and their families and helping with various administrative tasks at hand. A good sense of humour, faith, humility and compassion as well as administrative skills are helpful assets to facilitate this role.

Eden
The Eden Salt River Team is a team of urban missionaries who have
intentionally made their homes in Salt River to partner with the work that God is already doing in the community. Eden team members live sacrificially, share the gospel and build authentic relationships with the hope to see Salt River transformed through the love of Jesus. Interns are fully immersed into Salt River and join the team in engaging the community, building authentic relationships and creating a culture of discipleship. If these are things you are passionate about, we would love to have you apply.

Worship
We love lifting our voices together in praise of God at Jubilee. If you have the gift of playing a musical instrument or singing why not audition for the worship team. It usually requires serving at one or two meetings per month as well as a midweek rehearsal before the Sunday. You don’t need to be able to read sheet music but you must be able to follow chord sheets and play your instrument / sing with confidence. As an intern this would also involve coordinating, drawing up and managing a worship team roster.

Testimonials

Tapiwa M – I loved the atmosphere and automatically became part of the family. I was greatly encouraged by the morning Bible study and prayer meetings which have helped me to grow spiritually and also to seek the will of God and the help of the Holy Spirit before we start working. I also got the opportunity to serve the community and to pray for the patients in the Jubilee Health Clinic.

The Advance theology course has been a great help for me. It has helped me to understand the Old Testament better. I come from a background where the emphasis was mainly on the New Testament so getting to know the context and the history of God’s amazing story has been awesome. It has also helped me to apply what I get from studying the Bible better, whereas previously I was mainly studying the bible for knowledge purposes only without much application.

Hope B – I loved my time volunteering at Jubilee in 2019. It was such a blessing to move here from Durban and feel completely at home. I quickly inserted into a hub of community & friends. My voluntary year was a turning point for me with my walk with Christ. It was instrumental in me taking on my faith as my own, experiencing Christ as my Lord and Saviour rather than riding off the back of my parents’ faith. I loved being a part of so many different ministries during my year, from leading zumba (which I can’t do) at Sunshade, the fun & chaos of school Scripture Union, worshipping at Kids Klub, digging into God’s word at Eternity and prepping craft boxes in the office for Sunday kids church. My voluntary year will always be a special year for me marked by such rich memories, good friendship, learning more about God and how to serve Him and His church joyfully
